Alfa Laval puts heat transfer at the centre of the LNG efficiency challenge
At Gastech in Bangkok, Alfa Laval’s stand is a reminder that some of the energy transition’s hardest gains come from better heat transfer, separation and fluid handling.
The Alfa Laval name is prominent on the Gastech floor today, where the engineering group sits in the less glamorous but critical layer of the gas and LNG value chain: equipment that moves heat and fluids efficiently through industrial processes.
That matters because LNG is fundamentally a thermal engineering business. Natural gas must be cooled to cryogenic temperatures for liquefaction and later warmed for regasification, while compressors, process streams and utilities create their own heat-management demands. Small improvements in efficiency can therefore propagate through plant energy consumption, operating cost and emissions.
Alfa Laval’s established portfolio spans heat exchangers, separation and fluid-handling equipment used across energy and process industries. At a Gastech exhibition explicitly bringing together liquefaction, regasification, storage, shipping and emissions-management technologies, that hardware occupies an important position between ambitious energy targets and the physical plant needed to deliver them.
The wider theme visible across the Bangkok show floor is that decarbonisation is not only about replacing fuels. It is also about extracting more useful output from existing energy inputs. Heat recovery, tighter process integration and more efficient equipment can reduce wasted energy without requiring an entirely new industrial system.
For LNG operators, the engineering question is consequently practical: where can energy losses be removed from an already complex chain? Alfa Laval’s presence points toward heat-transfer and process optimisation as part of that answer.
