Norway brings the digital twin and the jettyless terminal to Gastech
On Norway's Gastech pavilion, Aize and ECOnnect Energy tell two very different technology stories that meet at the same problem: how to make complex energy infrastructure easier to understand, build and operate.
The contrast is visible on the exhibition floor. At Aize, a detailed three-dimensional industrial asset fills the screen. The proposition is to connect engineering and operational information to a digital representation of the physical plant, giving teams a common place to find equipment, drawings, work orders and asset information.
Aize describes its platform as a digital workspace spanning operations, maintenance, engineering projects, FPSOs, subsea assets and onshore facilities. Users can move between 2D drawings and 3D models, search connected asset information and collaborate around the same industrial context. Earlier this month the Oslo-based company also acquired French industrial-AI company Samp, adding reality-capture technology intended to connect physical brownfield assets with engineering data.
A few metres away on the Norway pavilion, ECOnnect Energy attacks a more physical infrastructure constraint. Its IQuay family is designed to transfer LNG and other fluids between ships and shore without relying on a conventional fixed jetty.
The Oslo company says the floating transfer architecture can be applied to LNG as well as ammonia, CO2 and hydrogen. The significance is flexibility: terminal developers can potentially reduce permanent marine infrastructure, shorten deployment and retain the ability to relocate equipment as projects and energy flows change.
Put together, the two stands capture an important part of Norway's energy-technology export story. Aize is working on the information layer — making industrial assets navigable in software. ECOnnect Energy is working on the physical connection between vessel and terminal. One reduces the distance between data and equipment; the other reduces the need for concrete and steel between ship and shore.
That combination matters as the energy system becomes more complicated rather than less. LNG infrastructure continues to expand while operators simultaneously prepare for CO2 transport, ammonia and hydrogen. The challenge is not simply introducing new molecules. It is building infrastructure that can be understood, operated and adapted without multiplying complexity.
