A live AixEnergy panel at Gastech in Bangkok is confronting the security problem behind autonomous energy: when software can influence physical operations, a cyber incident is no longer only an information-security event.
BANGKOK — The energy industry's push towards autonomous systems is forcing cybersecurity out of the server room and into the operational conversation.
The session taking place now at the AixEnergy theatre is titled “Cybersecurity in the Age of Autonomous Energy Systems.” It brings together power-sector security, enterprise infrastructure, upstream operations, cybersecurity technology and Thailand's national cyber-security expertise.

The core issue is the changing consequence of a successful attack. In conventional enterprise IT, cybersecurity has concentrated heavily on data, identity and service availability. Energy operations add another layer: control systems, field equipment, production assets and infrastructure whose behaviour has physical consequences.
Autonomous and agentic systems intensify that problem. An AI system that only recommends an action presents one risk profile. A system permitted to initiate, coordinate or optimise actions across operational workflows presents another. Security therefore has to address not only who can access a system, but what an autonomous system is authorised to do, what data it trusts, how its decisions are constrained and how a human operator can intervene.
This panel connects directly with another debate at AixEnergy today: the move from AI copilots towards agents. The attraction is faster analysis and increasingly automated operations. The security question follows immediately behind it: greater autonomy increases the importance of identity, segmentation, trustworthy operational data, audit trails, human override and recovery when something goes wrong.
That makes cybersecurity part of the engineering architecture of autonomous energy, rather than a layer that can be added after deployment.
