Inside Gastech’s live media machine
At Gastech, the energy story is not only unfolding on exhibition stands and conference stages. Just beyond the press lounge, another production line is running: cameras, lighting rigs, teleprompters, edit stations and interview sets built to turn conversations in Bangkok into news around the world.
From the finished broadcast, the process can look effortless. On the floor, it is visibly physical. Cables cross the studio space, lights are balanced above the set, cameras are prepared and crews work through the detail before a guest sits down. Every polished interview rests on a temporary newsroom assembled inside an exhibition hall.
Five media operations, different audiences
Bloomberg and CNBC bring the event into the global business and markets conversation. CNA and Nation Group add strong Southeast Asian and Thai perspectives. Alongside them, specialist publication Energy Connects is producing interviews and event coverage for an audience already immersed in the industry.
That mix matters. Gastech describes itself as a meeting point for natural gas, LNG, low-carbon solutions, electrification and AI for energy. The organisations working from these studios decide how technical discussions are explained to investors, governments, industry professionals and the wider public.
The work behind the live shot
A trade exhibition is temporary, but the media infrastructure is closer to a compact broadcast centre than a simple interview corner. The photographs show the work viewers rarely see: weighted stands, monitors, soft lighting, microphones, production desks and crews checking the set between interviews.
Energy Connects has an especially close relationship with the event. Its Gastech operation includes the official show preview and daily editions, while its on-site studio is designed for broadcast-quality interviews with senior energy leaders. That places specialist trade media beside the large broadcasters, covering many of the same conversations for a more focused industry audience.
Why the media floor matters
The decisions made at Gastech concern infrastructure, investment, technology and energy security. They can be highly technical, but they do not stay inside the exhibition hall. The media floor is where those discussions are questioned, shortened, translated and carried into markets around the world.
The cameras may point towards the guests, but the wider story is also behind them. Gastech is not only a place where the energy industry meets. It is a place where the industry explains itself, and where competing newsrooms decide which parts of that explanation deserve to travel furthest.
